Why your hot water heater may be leaking…
Some hot water heaters such as heat pumps and high efficiency gas storage hot water tanks will produce condensation under normal operation conditions. This condensation is drained to the exterior of the tank and you may notice a small wet patch on the surrounding surface. Condensation will be the highest during humid conditions for heat pumps and colder conditions for gas storage heaters. If the water leaking from your hot water heater is constant or more than one bucket of water during a 24 hour period, then we suggest you contact us immediately as it is probably a sign of a bigger problem with your system. It is important to note that eventually all hot water heaters will fail and require replacing. For storage heaters signs of a problem is usually evident by water leaking from the tank consistently. As a temporary fix until we can ensure your system is running correctly again, and to preserve the hot water in your tank, you can turn off the cold water supply valve on the inlet to the hot water heater in between usage.
