What are the different types of commercial hot water systems?

Commercial hot water systems are built to last. They operate at very high-efficiency rates running large volumes of hot water to suit any commercial application or the requirements of any sized residential or strata building. Both internal (inside) and external (outside) models are available for gas, electric, solar, warm water, heater exchangers and heat pumps systems.

Note: Commercial hot water systems may also be referred to as “industrial hot water systems” or “business hot water heaters”.

** UPDATE JUNE 2024 **

Storage tank commercial hot water

Storage tank systems are one of the most common types of commercial hot water systems. They consist of a large tank that stores heated water, ready for use when needed.

These systems are suitable for businesses with consistent hot water demand throughout the day, such as hotels, restaurants, and office buildings. Storage tank systems come in various sizes to accommodate different capacities, ensuring a continuous supply of hot water during peak hours.

  • Large storage capacity
  • Reliable and consistent hot water supply
  • Suitable for high-demand applications

On demand / instantaneous commercial hot water

Tankless instantaneous, or on-demand, commercial hot water systems heat water directly as it flows through the unit, eliminating the need for a storage tank.

These systems are known for their energy efficiency and space-saving design, making them ideal for smaller commercial spaces or businesses with fluctuating hot water demand.

Commercial instantanous hot water sstems are highly responsive, providing hot water on demand and reducing standby heat loss associated with traditional storage tank systems.

Commercial hHeat pump hot water systems extract heat from the surrounding air or ground and transfer it to the water, providing an energy-efficient method of heating water for commercial applications.

These systems work well in moderate climates and can significantly reduce energy consumption compared to traditional electric or gas-powered systems.

Heat pump systems are suitable for businesses looking to minimise their environmental impact and operating costs over the long term.

Commercial solar hot water

Solar hot water systems harness energy from the sun to heat water, offering a renewable and sustainable solution for your commercial hot water needs.

These systems consist of solar collectors that absorb sunlight and transfer the heat to a fluid, which then circulates through a heat exchanger to heat water.

Solar hot water is ideal for businesses committed to sustainability and seeking to reduce their dependence on traditional energy sources.
