After a big Sydney electrical storm, this Fairlight customer’s gas hot water system stopped working. Around the same time, we had received calls from customers dotted throughout Sydney who had experienced similar problems and, whilst it’s not overly common, the internal electrical components of instantaneous hot water systems can be damaged from power surges and lightning strike.
Once onsite to property on the Northern Beaches, after running tests, it was evident that the main computer board and other internal electrical components had been ‘fried’ in the storm.
We discussed the option to repair and replace the parts however, after running some calculations, it was more economical to replace the existing heater with a new instantaneous hot water system. To this end, we installed a new wall-mounted natural gas Rheem Metro26 instaneous hot water system.
Job Particulars
- Attend the Fairlight property to make repairs to the existing gas HWS not producing hot water.
- Assess site for safety and take appropriate actions
- Isolate system from gas supply at isolation valve.
- Re-commission system
- Clean site of any associated rubbish
- Carry out any further necessary testing
- Replacement of heater back in same position
- Connect back to hot and cold pipes
- Connect back to gas. Test.
- Remove and recycle the old system. Remove all rubbish.
