We received a call from a customer who were continually running out of hot water. Their family was growing and, as the kids got older, they started taking longer showers. An electric hot water system replacement service was necessary.
Once onsite at the customer’s home in Berowra on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, we found a very old Rheem electric water heater. The customer had certainly got their money’s worth out of this hard-working water heater.
We discussed hot water system replacement options with the customer and they opted for the installation of a new instant gas hot water system. There are many benefits of instantaneous hot water, including never running out of hot water. The customer opted for a new Rheem Metro gas continuous flow hot water system (model: 876T26) as they were happy with the performance and longevity of their old water heater.
Disconnect and remove the old water heater
First, we drained and disconnected the old electric water heater. We took this away for recycling.
Choosing a new gas hot water instant system
Next, we discussed where the customer wanted the new gas water heater installed. Because instant hot water heaters don’t have need a storage tank, we were able to install it discretely on a wall closest to the kitchen, laundry and bathroom. This will improve the time it takes for the hot water to reach the hot water taps, reducing water waste and waiting times.
Supply and installation of a new instant hot water system
As licensed plumbers and gas fitters, we are able to undertake all the work necessary to connect a customer to a new gas hot water system. We do not have to outsource to other tradespeople. This saves the customer considerable expense and makes the process quicker so our customers are back enjoying trouble free hot water quickly. We then connected the cold water inlet and hot water outlet pipes.
Testing and clean up
After completing the installation, we undertake a series of tests to ensure the hot water system is operating correctly. These include testing the water pressure, and ensuring there are no gas leaks. Finally, the system is ignited and the temperature settings are adjusted according to the manufacturer’s specifications and Australian standards.
We then cleaned up the site, removed any rubbish, and left the customers to enjoy many long showers without worrying they would run out of hot water.
Important: To ensure your hot water system is working efficiently and safely, it is recommended they are serviced every 5 years. The client asked us to contact them in 5 years to book a service call-out.
