Rheem solar hot water system installation.

We were contacted by a Northern Sydney customer whose old Solahart rooftop system had stopped producing hot water. The system had been installed when the apartments were built and, after many years of use, had stopped working.  It was time for a replacement solar hot water system to be installed.

John arrived onsite at the property later that day. The first step was to get up onto the roof of the apartment building and assess whether the old Solahart hot water system could be repaired.  This is always our first plan of action as it is typically the easiest and most cost-effective option.

Once on the roof, John could see that the storage tank and critical components of the Solahart solar system were beyond economical repair. Unfortunately, as all hot water systems age, the manufacturers stop producing replacement parts. There is no alterative but to install a new hot water system.

John discussed replacement solar hot water system options with the customer and they opted for the Rheem Hiline solar hot water system with a 300 litre stainless steel storage tank (model: 52L300). Available in a range of popular Colorbond colours – Silver Grey, Woodland Grey, Headlan and Night Sky.  The customer opted for Night Sky.

Rheem Solar Hot Water Systems

The Rheem Hiline solar hot water systems directly heat water as it passes through collectors and rises back into the storage tank.  Available in a range of generous rooftop hot water storage capacities, they cater for households large and small. Some models has a stainless steel tank and is available in 4 x COLORBOND colours. Gas or electric boost options are available for days when the sun doesn’t shine.

Rheem produces a durable solar hot water system

Rheem’s stainless steel tanks are known for their exceptional durability. Unlike traditional glass-lined tanks, stainless steel tanks are resistant to corrosion and rust, ensuring a longer lifespan.

Rheem solar systems offer exceptional energy efficiency

The Rheem solar hot water system is designed to maximise energy efficiency, significantly reducing our reliance on grid electricity. Not only does this help reduce your environmental impact but also leads to substantial savings on energy bills.

Rheem’s 10 year warranty gives customers peace of mind

One of the most attractive features of the Rheem Hiline series is the 10 year warranty. This offers customers the peace of mind knowing that should any issues within this period, it will be taken care of without additional costs.

* Government rebates may be available for customers who upgrade to an energy efficient hot water system. Contact us to find out if you’re eligible.

The solar hot water system installation process

When installing a new solar hot water system or replacing an old one, the installation process is generally followed (but may vary).

Assessment and planning

The first step is assessment. This includes evaluating the customers current hot water system, location, roof structure, and water usage patterns. With this information, we can recommend to the customer the best solar hot water system to suit their requirements. Scroll down for tips on choosing the right hot water system.

Old hot water system removal

Next, we typically disconnect and remove the customer’s old hot water system.  Having done thousands of hot water system removals, we can undertake this process safely and efficiently.

Installation of the new Rheem solar hot water system

We carry dozens of new Rheem hot water systems ready for installation so our customers don’t have to wait for products to be ordered.

Importantly, we have specially designed equipment so we can safely and quickly get heavy rooftop solar systems onto customer’s roofs (watch video here).  This means we don’t have to waste time hiring costly equipment.

We then determine the best location for solar hot water system to ensure safe installation and optimal exposure to sunlight. The system is secured in place so it can withstand all weather conditions.

And finally, we connect it to the necessary water and power supply, often with a gas or electric backup for times when the sun isn’t shining.

Testing and commissioning the new solar hot wate system

After installation, the system is thoroughly tested to ensure it is working correctly. We check for leaks, test the water temperature, and esnure the solar collectors are functioning optimally.

Tips for choosing the right hot water system

Purchasing a new hot water system is an investment in your future and, as the hardest working appliance in your home, it’s important you purchase the right product for your needs now and into the future.

When we advise a customer on the best hot water system for their needs, we not only consider their hot water demands now but their projected usage in the future. For example, as small children grow into teenagers, they invariably use more hot water. Additionally, it’s important to not only consider the ‘humans’ in the home but the hot water usage requirements of other appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers which can use as much hot water as one person.

Below is a list of factors to consider when purchasing a new hot water system.
  • How many bathrooms or members of your household will be using hot water at the same time?
  • How many adults and children live in the home? Teenagers tend to use more hot water than small children.
  • Are other appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines connected to the hot water system? Will they rely on the hot water system at the same time as household occupants?
  • Will a bath or spa be used regularly?
  • Where will the hot water system be installed and how much space is available?
  • What are the available energy supplies (i.e. gas, electricity, solar)?

Note: Climate conditions and water pressure can also affect the hot water system that can be installed in your area.  If you need advice, contact our friendly team.

Save time and money by employing a local hot water expert

Did you know that often the repair and installation of a hot water system requires the expertise and qualifications of both a licensed plumber and a licensed electrician?

We are qualified to undertake any plumbing and electrical work required to ensure your hot water heater is repaired quickly and within budget. Plumbers who do not specialise in the installation of hot water heaters may need to outsource the electrical work required to another tradesperson, thereby holding up your hot water system repair or installation, adding extra expense due to additional call-out fees charged by employing two tradespeople.

Your hot water heater is an expensive appliance. Don’t risk voiding your warranty.

Additionally, most manufacturers won’t cover the terms of your hot water system warranty if it isn’t installed by a licensed hot water technician or a qualified plumber. Hot water tanks are an expensive appliance so why would you risk voiding your warranty by installing it yourself or employing the services of someone who isn’t licensed?
