It was this Baulkham Hills customer’s lucky day when their old electric Dux hot water heater decided to break down because it meant they were able to upgrade to an energy-efficient Chromagen heat pump hot water system and take advantage of the generous solar hot water rebates NSW on offer by the Government.
We received an emergency, after hours call from this Baulkham Hills, in Sydney’s Hills Shire, who had come home from work to find they had no hot water. Our local Hills Shire service technician was still working on a job at Castle Hill so dropped in to see the customer after he had finished that job.

Once onsite, our hot water specialist James, found that there were multiple problems with the customer’s old, Dux electric hot water system which was 10-12 years old. James discussed the cost with the customer to repair the old hot water system. He also explained the Government rebates that are currently available to NSW residents for the next 12 months if they switch from electric hot water to a more environmentally friendly solar hot water system or a heat pump hot water heater. Obviously, the customer was very interested and was more than happy to take advantage of this generous incentive.
Lucky for the customer, we had received an installation of a new Chromagen heat pump earlier that day so we were able to install the system immediately. It really was their lucky day.
The customer will now save money on their hot water bills.

Chromagen heat pump installation particulars
- Attend the Baulkham Hills property to diagnose problems with the existing Vulcan electric hot water system.
- Assess the site for safety and make appropriate arrangements.
- Isolate the existing Dux electric hot water system at the main power. Re-test load at system with an external device.
- Drain and remove the old Dux electric hot water heater.
- Supply and install a new Chromagen heat pump hot water heater (280 litre – model RSJ-23/300RDN3-B)
- Install a new, larger concrete slab to house the new Chromagen heat pump.
- Install 15mm RMC solar tempering valve to comply with AS3500 Plumbing code
- Reconnect the new heat pump to the existing hot and cold pipework
- Commission and test the new hot water system.
- Dispose of and recycle the old electric hot water heater.
- Clean up the site and remove any associated rubbish.
- Complete and submit the paperwork for the customer claiming the solar rebates.
