We were contacted by a customer at Pymble, on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, whose rooftop Rheem solar hot water heater had started leaking. They didn’t realise but their precious hot water was running down the roof and into the gutters.

Over the phone, the customer explained to our solar specialist, John, that they had been running out of hot water for a while. They thought this was because they had been using more hot water as the weather got cooler. Once onsite and on the roof, it was evident that the customer’s old rooftop solar system was very old. In fact, the end had dislodged from the storage tank. As the photos below attest, someone had tried to fix it previously by wrapping duct tape around the join. With the intense heat and weather subjected to any rooftop solar hot water system, this is not a viable or long term repair option.

John explained to the customer that their old system was beyond economical repair and a new solar hot water system needed to be installed. Once back on the ground, John was able to show them photos and, of course, they agreed that a new solar hot water system was required.

John was able to install the new system in the same location. A new tempering valve was also installed to comply with AS3500 plumbing code. Upon completion, any associated rubbish was cleaned up and John took away the customer’s old solar hot water heater for recycling.

The customer was able to take advantage of the Government solar rebates available.

And finally, we completed the relevant solar hot water rebate forms with the customer so they could benefit from the generous State and Federation Government solar rebates currently available. These rebates equate to a significant saving for customers upgrading or installing a new solar hot water system in their home or business. We then lodge these on the customer’s behalf.

Within a few hours, the customer was back enjoying trouble-free hot water and should do for years to come.
